His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, today presided over the official unveiling of newly acquired tractors and the distribution of essential farm inputs to farmers, women associations, and government schools across the state.
The event, held at the Agricultural Input Supply Unit (AISU) in Ede, marks a significant milestone in the administration’s ongoing efforts to advance agro-industrialization and ensure food security within Osun State.
In his address, Governor Adeleke highlighted the achievements of his administration’s 5-Point Action Plan, which prioritizes workers’ welfare, financial inclusion, infrastructure development, and social sector upliftment, with a special focus on agro-industrialization.
He emphasized the strategic importance of these priorities, noting that they are designed to complement one another to drive holistic development in the state.
Governor Adeleke pointed to the administration’s swift economic interventions, including the prompt payment of salaries and pensions, increased funding for gratuities, and the settlement of backlog half-salaries, which had burdened workers in the state.
The Governor also reaffirms the administration’s commitment to financial inclusion and localization by prioritizing local contractors and suppliers in the execution of state projects.
“We have constructed over 100 kilometers of roads, and another 80 kilometers are currently under construction, including four flyover bridges, numerous channelization projects, and the rehabilitation of several schools and health centers. These multi-billion naira projects aim to create an enabling environment for the social sector upliftment and agro-industrialization of our state,” Governor Adeleke said.
At the ceremony, Governor Adeleke distributed 6,000 herbicides, 80,000 cashew seedlings, 8,000 cassava cuttings, various vegetable seeds, and 500 bags of lime to beneficiaries.
He also unveiled 31 newly purchased tractors, equipped with full implements, which will be allocated to farmers’ cooperative societies and associations once administrative processes are complete.
This initiative represents the first phase of a broader project aimed at enhancing agricultural production in Osun State.
In a significant commitment to agricultural development, Governor Adeleke announced that the state has allocated N8 billion for the acquisition of tractors and farm-clearing equipment, alongside an additional N2 billion for farm input support.
He reiterated his administration’s dedication to providing the necessary infrastructure and resources to bolster food security and improve the livelihoods of the state’s residents.
“No leader with conscience would be happy that his people are struggling to make ends meet and feed their families. We are ready to make the required investments in this critical sector.”
The Governor concluded the ceremony by officially unveiling the farm inputs and tractors, expressing his hope that these resources would serve as a foundation for the agro-industrial development of Osun State, in line with his administration’s 5-Point Action Plan.
