Yesterday, I, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Sport and Special Needs, Mr. Oladele Timothy Olawuni, and the leadership of the Osun State Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), paid a courtesy visit to Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly.
Recall that on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, the State Assembly, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, passed the Osun State Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Bill, which was sponsored by Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi, into law.
We visited the Speaker of the State Assembly to convey our appreciation over the safe passage of the bill and to express our joys towards the inclusion of people with special needs in the running of state affairs.
We also thanked the Speaker and the entire state legislature for allowing the safe passage of the bill that does not allow discrimination against persons with disabilities in the state.
We assured the Speaker and state assembly of our readiness to provide moral and technical support in the full implementation of the contents of the bill, especially the setting up of the bureau for disabled people whenever it is assented by Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke.
We also appealed to the Speaker and other honorable members to always formulate bills and move motions that would relieve the stress or make life easier for people with special needs.
