Fuel Scarcity: No Plan to Increase Charges on ‘Imole Buses’ – Osun Govt

By Kingsley Omoyeni

As the lingering fuel scarcity bites harder across the country, Osun State government has assured residents that the charges on the palliative buses(Imole Buses) provided by government to cushion the effect of subsidy removal will not be increased.

The State government gave the assurance through the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Sesan Oyedele and the Special Adviser on Transportation, Hon. Yakubu Adejare while the duo were reacting to questions from journalists at the State Secretariat.

Hon. Oyedele said contrary to rumours being peddled around that the charges on the buses will be increased, the State Governor has ordered that the buses must be on the road to assist residents without increasing the fare.

He noted that Governor Adeleke has been highly supportive of the scheme to ensure that the buses do not leave the road, stressing that he is ready to ensure that residents do not feel the heat of the fuel scarcity too much.

Hon. Oyedele while urging residents of the State to see the ‘Imole De Buses’ as their own properties, appealed to them to see the drivers and other members of staff as their friends and family, explaining that they have been given adequate orientation and training to ensure that they treat passengers and commuters with respect.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Yakubu Adejare said the State Governor is working round the clock to ensure that the buses remain on the road to assist residents despite the scarcity of fuel.

He explained that the administration of Senator Ademola Adeleke is determined to continue to look for means to cushion the effects of the lingering fuel scarcity and the removal of subsidy on Petroleum products.

In his words, “I can assure you that ‘Imole De Buses’ will not increase its charges, we know that times are hard and it is taking its toll on the masses. This is part of the reasons why the buses are provided, to assist the masses.

“We have been hearing rumours that we are planning to increase the charges, I can tell you that it is a lie. We are not increasing the charges at all”. He stated.
