Gov Adeleke Clears Backlog of UNILESA Staff arrears

It was a celebration galore at the University of Ilesa, Osun State, as the Vice Chancellor, Professor Taiwo Asaolu announced the approval of payment of backlog of welfare packages to staff of the institution and profiling of temporary staff for regularization of their appointments by the state government.

Professor Asaolu broke the news at a general meeting held at the University Hall on October 20, 2023.

The Vice Chancellor said the welfare package payment covered 2016 to 2023 academic calendar, stressing that all those captured by the package would get paid within two months.

The University Don also hinted that the Governor Ademola Adeleke led administration had granted approval that funding for the prosecution of the second phase of resource verification by the Council of Legal Education, Council of Nurses and Midwives of Nigeria and Council of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria be made available to the University.

“Therefore, since yesterday, we have been upscaling our activities, because before now all our contractors, except one have deserted the site, we cannot blame them, but with this renewed hope that the Governor has given to us, all of them have resumed work and we have now invited the three professional bodies for the verification exercise ” quoting the Vice Chancellor.

According to him, illumination of the campus would soon commence as 165 units of solar street lights would soon be supplied and installed around the campus.

Professor Asaolu gave an update on the number of candidates that have so far changed their Universities of choice to the University of Ilesa. He hinted that the number had risen to 1460 candidates so far.

The University Don told the gathering that he attributed the great feat attained by the management within the short period of the University’s existence to the remarkable and timely support received from Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Pro Chancellor of the University, Hon. Gbenga Onigbogi whom he described as ideal leaders with exemplary traits.

Sounding a note of warning to the staff, the VC advised them against divulging classified information on the social media.

He also admonished members of staff to develop excellent work ethics as the Institution has upgraded its Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance to the Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance and SERVICOM. This, according to the VC was intended to ensure service compliance and adherence to professional ethics by all staff.

In his response, the representative of the non teaching staff, Mr. Olusoji Fasipe lauded the State Government for the upgrade of infrastructural facilities in the University campus, describing the approval of outstanding welfare packages for staff as unprecedented.

Also responding, the representative of the teaching staff, Dr. Williams Alabi disclosed that the staff would no doubt reciprocate the kind gesture of the governor who has lived up to his promises from the inception of the university
