International Day of Girl Child: NAWOJ calls on Govt, Stakeholders to Prioritize Girl-Child Rights

It’s the world marks International Day of the Girl Child, government and stakeholders have been urged to move beyond reaffirming commitments, and invest boldly in actions needed to make changes that could empower the girl child.

This is contained in a release jointly signed by the Chairperson of the association Mrs Motunrayo Ayegbayo and Secretary Comrade Abisola Ariwodola

According to the release, this year celebration with the theme : Invest on girls rights: our leadership, our well-being, the association called on government at all levels to be more focused in taking action to curtail girls and womens’ right, and gain progress on gender equality.

The statement added that women and girls deserve to be protected, and can lead all to a good future when empowered, emphasized that there is need for Osun government and stakeholders to amplify girls’ voices and reiterate commitment to working together to build a society where every girl can lead and thrive.

Osun NAWOJ maintained that the girl child has the right to a safe and enabling environment, quality education, and access to healthy living during their critical formative years, as they mature into women.

While, wishing every girl child a happy celebration, the association re-echoed to Osun government and those concerned to support girls because they have the potential to become the empowered girls of today and tomorrows workers, mothers, successful entrepreneurs, mentors, and political leaders, among others.

The Association however advocated that investment in the girl child must be religiously activated to achieve their ambitions, hence all hands must be on deck to address the challenges faced by the girl child such as, abuse, rape, molestation, female genital mutilation, harassment and domestic violence.

The statement added that promoting the empowerment of the girl child, is part of the fulfilment of their human rights, it is important that Osun government and stakeholders boost gender equality and inclusion in order to make the society a better place to live
