Klub De Laurel Gives Indigent Students Bursary, Scholarship Awards In Osun

No fewer than sixteen (16) Osun indigent students received Bursary/scholarship awards from the Klub De Laurel, today in Ikirun, Ifelodun local government area of Osun State.

Their names are, Olagunju Deborah, Adeyemi Sherifudeen, Ahmed Ramon, Adesina Fathia, Oyeniyi Quadri, Bankole Janet, Lukman Nasimot and Akinola Elijah.

Others are, Folorunso Rhoda, Owolabi Ezekiel, Olaniyi Enoch, Olayiwola Waris, Ibitoye Praise, Badmus Abdurahman, Adegoke Sukurat and Adeleke Victoria.

Each winner went home with a total package of thirty thousand naira (N30,000), as thirty-Two (32) indigent students sat for the examination, which took place at Akinorun Grammar School, Ikirun.

List of schools who participated in the examination are Akinorun Grammar School, African Church Grammar School, Onaolapo Memorial High School, Orimolade Grammar School, Inisa Grammar School, Oyan Grammar School, Holy Micheal High School and School of Science, Ikirun.

Delivering his speech, The chairman, planning committee, Alhaji Gafar Atitebi welcomes the students and special guests to the program, he encouraged the students to remain committed to their academic pursuit.

He noted the decadence in the society which calls for worry, as both teachers and parents have a lot to do in making sure that students are properly monitored. He urged the students not to join bad gangs, as this is capable of wrecking havoc on their bright future.

He said, “There is nothing we can compare with education, hence we must not be tired or discouraged from making sure we pursue our education with all energies.”

The Mayor of the Club, Mr Sola Olajide narrated how they started the club when they were in Lagos. He said the club was formed in 1992 when they discovered that they can be giving something back to the society and that it will go a long way in ensuring that those who couldn’t afford to send their wards to private schools are helped by way of bursary award, annually.

He opined, “When we discovered that virtually all of us are already working and that we can afford to be contributing something for the club, we started as a social club. Today, we thank God for how far he has taken us.

“The club decides to be doing this every year, knowing fully well that this will have in no small measure a positive impact in the lives of the indigent students.”

Also speaking at the event, a member of the club, Barr. Tajudeen Adeyemi encouraged the students to be up and doing and that they must strive hard to make sure that they become good ambassadors of their respective schools in the future.

“Always come to school on time. Don’t join bad gangs. We are encouraging you today because we were dedicated when we were in your age. As a matter of fact, I was an average student when I was in school, but today, I am who I am due to my commitment and resilience. You also can be great if you are determined to be.”

In his remarks, the keynote speaker, Dr. Kunle Adewoyin applauded Klub De Laurel for putting up the program together for the benefit of the students. He described the gesture as a lifetime investment which will yield a great result in the nearest future.

He said those who are governors and president today are able to get to that height because they didn’t joke with their education when they were young.

“I want to encourage you all to be more committed and dedicated to your education. Take your education very seriously and don’t spend whatever you are given today on frivolous things. Buy books that can nourish your horizon.” he said

Parents and teachers who were at the event also lauded the club for giving back to the society as prayers were offered to the club, members and the country at large.
