Osun Assembly Supports Human Papillomavirus Vaccine – Speaker

The Honourable Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun has once again pledged the commitment of the Assembly under his leadership to improve Medicare in the society.

This pledge was contained in his address while receiving the Advocacy and Sensitization Team for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine in office at the Assembly Complex.

The team was led by the Director of Medical Service and Disease Control of the State Primary Healthcare Board, Dr. Oluyemi Aduke Ogundun.

In her remark earlier, Dr. Ogundun said her team came to the House of Assembly to solicit for their support as representatives of the people across the state towards the HPV vaccination exercise to protect girls aged 9-14 years against Cervical Cancer which is slated to commence by 24th of October, 2023 through Communities, Schools and Health Facilities.

In the course of the sensitization lecture, the State Health Promotion Officer of Osun State Primary Health Care Board, Mrs Adeniyi Taiwo said the Humanpapilloma virus can infects many parts of the body of both men and women. “And it causes cervical, anal, vaginal, penile and vulva cancers in women,” she added

Responding, the Honourable Speaker appreciated the team for their commitment towards eradicating cervical cancer in the society.

He added that as a father of three girls children, he is ready to champion the campaign for the vaccine while assuring the team of the House of Assembly’s support all the time in their advocacy and vaccination excercise.

The sensitisation lecture, which took place at the Parliamentary Hall of the House of Assembly has the Principal Officers and other members of the House of Aseembly in attendance.

Also in the advocacy and sesitization team are Mr Solomon Israel Olakanmi (UNICEF VSL for Osun State), Mr Olantunji A. Ogunsemide (Clinton Health Access Initiative TA on HPVVI in Osun State), Mrs Adeleke Rebecca Odunola (NPHCDA Osun State Cordinator) and Mrs Grace Omolola Adeniyi (UNICEF Adolescent Health HPVV Consultant).
