Osun Govt Commences Rehabilitation of Iree/Eripa Water Dam

Osun state government has commenced rehabilitation of the Iree/Eripa water dam in Boripe Local Government of Osun state.

It will be recalled that Governor of Osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke’s five point agenda, includes the provision of adequate and portable water supply for citizens.

During a courtesy visit to the Dam on Friday, Special Adviser to the Governor on Small Town Water Supply and Sanitation, Princess Oyeboade Oyewale explained that the aim for rehabitating the long neglected dam is to ensure there is provision of water supply to the community.

She also assured that the project will be thoroughly monitored because the engineer in charge is also a civil servant who is an insider that can be monitored.

“This dam was constructed about 14 years ago by the former Governor of Osun state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola. And we are here to see the repair that will be done, because Governor Adeleke has already approved the rehabilitation of dam, so we are here to check the current situation so that work can start immediately

“The rehabilitation is part of our Governor’s five point agenda, which is to provide quality and portable water for the use of his people.

“The project will be done by civil servant engineers in this sector, and they are the one that will maintain it and make sure its completed not abandoned so as to ensure constant portable water to this community.” She assured.

In an interview with our correspondent, General Manager Small Town Water supply and sanitation, Mrs Toyin Asaolu urged the community members to be actively involved in the rehabilitation process.

According to her, “All the community members should be vigilant, so that all the properties or steels will not be carted away. Part of their contributions is to make sure the equipment we are using for this scheme are safe.

“They should be equally be aware that those who are not meant to be here should not come especially the people that steal and sell steel so that they will not cart away those valuable equipments and instruments” She advised.

Earlier while speaking, Head of operations for Small Town Agency, Engineer Femi Odeyemi disclosed that within a month, there will be a lot of changes on the Water Scheme.

“Hopefully, under a month, we are going achieve meaningful achievements. Everything we are using will be to the standard so that the project will not give us any problem by the time we are using it.

“This dam has been down for more than 10 years, no production here, but presently, with the help of Our Governor, he has graciously approved the rehabilitation of this place and work will start immediately.” He said.

While commending the state government for the prompt response towards the community, Oba Muritala Oyelakun, the Aree of Ire Land, described Governor Adeleke as a responsive and active Governor.

“We are deeply grateful to the state governor for yielding to our request. We are grateful because we told him our grievances and he responded so well. This is not the first time he would respond to us in this community, he has always been an attentive and proactive Governor, May God help him to succeed continuously” he prayed
