As part of his effort to make life more bearable for the people of Osun, the adminstration of Governor Ademola Adeleke is committed to providing good leadership, delivering on his promises.
Governor Adeleke has directed the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Sunday Oroniyi and the Special Adviser on STOWASSA, Princess Oyeboade Oyewale Afolabi to embark on the inspection of Ora-Igbomina water scheme for proper resuscitation.
Recall, the water scheme was constructed and commissioned by the administration of former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola to serve the people of Ora-Igbomina and Oke-Ila. Sadly, the scheme was abandoned by the previous administrations in the state, hence the deplorable condition of the scheme.
Yesterday, the Commissioner for Water Resources and Special Adviser on Small Town Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (STOWASSA) Led other senior government officials to inspect the water scheme. Information revealed that all the equipments at the scheme have been auctioned by the administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
Speaking, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Sunday Oroniyi said it’s sad with the deplorable condition of the scheme, noting that people must come first in whatever the government does.
He opined, “Whatever we are seeing here today speaks volume about our leaders who have governed the state. Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola was so concerned with the welfare of the people, hence he provided this scheme, it’s sad that those who came after him did not deemed it fit to consider the people of this locality. As we speak, they don’t have access to portable water. If not for the boreholes sunk during the 100 days in office of Governor Adeleke, our people in Ifedayo LG would have faced hell in accessing portable water.
In her remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Small Town Water Supply & Sanitation Agency and Water Regulatory Commission, Princess Oyeboade Oyewale Afolabi described the water scheme as people oriented program, but unfortunately those who came after Prince Oyinlola did not see it that way.
She noted, “What we have here is enough to feed Ora-Igbomina, Oke-Ila, Less-city, even Ila Orangun, unfortunately this scheme had been abandoned. Nothing is working here again. Even, the structures put in place by former Governor Oyinlola have collapsed.”
The delegation visited the three monarchs in the area – The Orangun of Oke-Ila, Asaoni and Akesin of Ora-Igbomina land to brief them that the state government is willing to resuscitate the water scheme.
Speaking at the palaces of the monarchs, the Commissioner for water resources and Special Adviser said they came to have on-the-spot-assessment as directed by His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, as they solicit their support in making sure that the communities provide necessary security in the area.
In their separate remarks, the Orangun of Oke-Ila, Asaoni and Akesin of Ora-Igbomina land assured the delegation of their readiness to cooperate with the state government in providing necessary support.
The monarchs however registered their displeasure with the way the water scheme was handled by previous administration. They said, their people do face a lot of challenges during the dry season in seeking for water.
They, however, commended Governor Adeleke for the borehole he sunk in each ward as they prayed for more wisdom and good health for the Governor.
Among those who visited the water scheme were, Mrs Toyin Asaolu, General Manager, STOWASSA; the contactor, Engr. Lekan Omojowo, Engr. Sundby Ibrahim, Engr. Afelumo Rueben, Engr. Aarolowa Asiat Folasade.
Others were, Mr. Oyeleye Muyiwa, Engr. Odeyemi Adewale, Engr. Babatunde Abimbola, Engr. Musiliu Ipaye, Engr. Olanrewaju Saheed and Engr. Oyeleye Muyiwa
