Patronize local products to grow economy, Fadahunsi tells Nigerians

The lawmaker representing Osun East in the Senate, Francis Fadahunsi, has urged Nigerians to embrace subsistence farming and reduce craving for imported good to survive the current high cost of basic daily needs.

Fadahunsi, who spoke in Ilesa at the closing ceremony of vocational training for 200 residents of the East Senatorial District he organised in conjunction with Nigeria Public Complains Commission on Wednesday, said low purchasing power of Nigerians and the need to grow the local economy has made it mandatory for people to patronise local products.

The parliamentarian also said since efforts of various tiers of government to provide solutions to the myriads of economic challenges facing the country have not yielded the desired, Nigerians must readjust their consumption pattern by producing basic food staples and use of products manufactured locally.

He said, “All tiers of government are coming up with various strategies to solve the country’s economic challenges, but unfortunately, the impact of their efforts are not being felt by the people yet.

“That is why I am suggesting to Nigerians to embrace agriculture, if only to feed yourself and family, it is important we are start growing our food. More importantly, let’s all start using only products we manufacture here in Nigeria. We should reduce cravings for imported goods to survive this harsh economy.”

Commenting on the training, Fadahunsi who was represented by his Legislative Assistant Chief Femi Fadipe, said the participants, who had been trained in the areas of conversion of fuel powered generator to gas, shoe, bag and soap making amongst others, would earn a decent living if people would buy their products.

“Once we start patronising local products, people that are learning various vocations will sell their products, and they will be able to produce more. This kind of empowerment initiatives will achieve the target behind it when we all choose to that. We all need to make that decision as individuals for the country to survive the current economic crises,” he said.

A statement by Mr. Sam Segun-Progress, the media assistant to Fadahunsi, said the participants at the training empowerment programme tagged: ‘Entrepreneurship Training and Provision of Start Up Grants to Youths in Selected Community Of Osun East Senatorial District,’ were drawn from residents of the 10 local government areas in Senatorial District.
