PDP BoT Sets Up Reconciliation Committee Ahead of National Convention

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set up a high-powered reconciliation committee to unite warring factions within the party ahead of its elective national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

This decision was part of the resolutions reached at the emergency meeting of the BoT held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in Abuja, where members extensively deliberated on recent developments within the party.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the Board reaffirmed that the PDP remains a united, formidable, and focused political party under the leadership of Ambassador Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC).

The BoT expressed confidence in the efforts of the NWC, the PDP Governors’ Forum, the National Convention Organizing Committee, and other key organs of the party for their roles in stabilizing the PDP ahead of the upcoming convention.

The Board also welcomed the recent ruling of the Oyo State High Court, presided over by Justice A. L. Akintola, which affirmed the constitutional right of the party to conduct its internal affairs, including holding its 2025 elective convention as scheduled. The BoT described the ruling as “a victory for democracy, rule of law, and political development in Nigeria.”

However, the BoT expressed concern over recent tensions, misunderstandings, and incidents, including the invasion of the PDP National Secretariat, describing them as “not reflective of the ideals and character of the PDP.”

As the conscience of the party, the BoT stated that it would not take sides but remain focused on protecting the integrity of the PDP and promoting dialogue over discord, noting that reconciliation was “a demonstration of maturity and responsibility, not weakness.”

To this end, the BoT announced the constitution of a Reconciliation Committee to immediately engage all conflicting sides and restore unity of purpose within the party.

Members of the committee include:

Amb. Hassan Adamu (North East) – Chairman

Chief Mike Oghiadomhe (South South) – Secretary

Chief Ugochukwu Okeke (South East)

Sen. Zaynab Kure (North Central)

Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola (South West)

Dr. Lubna Mohammed Gusau (North West)

The BoT further directed the committee to submit its report on or before Tuesday, November 11, 2025, for further action.
