
Prince Adewale Laoye, an esteemed figure in the promotion of art and culture, has added another accolade to his growing list of honors. On October 12th, 2024, the Old Students Association of Adventist Grammar School, Ede (AGSEOSA), conferred upon him the prestigious Noble Ambassador of AGSEOSA Award.
The award recognizes Laoye’s outstanding contributions to the preservation and promotion of traditional arts and culture, as well as his dedication to upholding the values and ethics instilled by Adventist Grammar School, Ede. Laoye, an alumnus of the institution, has continuously demonstrated leadership and commitment to heritage through his work as the CEO of Aafin Ilu, an art center that focuses on drum, art, and culture.
In a statement accompanying the award, AGSEOSA cited: “This is in recognition of your outstanding contributions to art and culture, and for upholding the values and ethics of Adventist Grammar School, Ede.”
Prince Adewale Laoye, often referred to as the “Drummer of Peace” and hailed as a cultural ambassador for the Yoruba drum tradition, expressed gratitude for the honour, noting that the Class of ’94, who bestowed the award, are his juniors at the school. “I attended Adventist Grammar School, Ede, as well, and they are so proud of me and what I am doing. This recognition is truly special,” he said.
Laoye’s work at Aafin Ilu has garnered attention for its dedication to cultural preservation, promoting not just the art of drumming, but also other elements of traditional heritage. This latest award serves as a testament to his tireless efforts in keeping the cultural legacy alive for future generations.
The ceremony was attended by distinguished alumni of Adventist Grammar School, Ede, local dignitaries, and supporters of the arts community. The AGSEOSA Award adds to Laoye’s long list of accolades, further cementing his reputation as a custodian of Yoruba culture and a role model for younger generations.
