University of Ilesa Inaugurates Town Gown Committee

The University of Ilesa management has inaugurated a town gown committee to tackle issues of insecurity and other related matters around the school premises and outside.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Taiwo Asaolu while inaugurating the committee at the council chamber of the University charged them to deliver on their mandate, noting that the peace and tranquility being enjoyed within and outside the institution must continue.

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the inauguration of the University of Ilesa Town Gown Committee. Today marks a significant milestone in our efforts to foster a positive and mutually beneficial relationship between our institution and the surrounding communities.

As we continue to grow academically and physically, our socioeconomic impact on the local communities becomes increasingly evident. As an institution, we recognize the importance of community service and are
committed to building strong, positive relationships with our neighbours.

According to the Vice Chancellor, he stated that the purpose of the Committee is to promote cooperation, understanding, and mutual benefit between the institution and the surrounding communities.

“In specific terms, the objectives of the Committee are to Foster cooperation and understanding between the university and local community. Address issues of mutual concern, such as safety, security, and environmental sustainability. Enhance the quality of life for students, staff, and community members. Foster economic development and partnerships between the university and local businesses.

“You will all agree with me that the University of Ilesa, Osun State, is indeed a blessing to the community, bringing about great socioeconomic development and opportunities for growth. The huge investment of the
University in sports development is a great example of this, with its sports centre and facilities now serving as a hub for sporting activities, which are open to the public.

“Our plan to establish a College of Health Sciences is another exciting development. The College will obviously need a Teaching Hospital Complex and through this, the community can look forward to benefiting from quality healthcare services.

He said the University’s presence therefore
guarantees socioeconomic development for the community and to achieve academic stability and maximize the benefits offered by UNILESA, it is essential for all stakeholders to work together. “By working together, the University of Ilesa can achieve its vision of becoming a foremost university contributing to sustainable national development.”

“The State Government, led by His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, the Executive Governor and Visitor to the University has been giving tremendous support to our University. As we continue to benefit from government’s support, it is essential that we reciprocate by doing our part to maintain peace within and outside the University community.

“The Committee will meet regularly to discuss issues of mutual concern, develop initiatives
to promote community engagement, and collaborate with local authorities to address shared challenges.

“I urge members of the Committee to approach this assignment with dedication and enthusiasm. Your efforts will be instrumental in building a strong, positive relationship between our institution and the local
community.”, he said

Speaking, the Chairman of the committee, Dr. Aduroja assured the school management that they will do everything possible to deliver on their assignment.

“I want to assure the Vice Chancellor and other principal officers of this institution that the committee will do everything possible to make sure that the security, safety and mutual understanding are sustained within and outside the institution.”

The Committee comprises of representatives
from the University, local community, security agents, NURTW representative, ACOMORAN representative and other relevant stakeholders
