The Osun State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) salutes all affiliated members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Osun State Chapter, for their resilience and commitment towards the directive to withdraw their services months ago due to the political uproar across the Local Government Councils’ work environment.
Having directed all our members working in all the LGAs in Osun State to withdraw their services effective Monday, 17th February, 2025, by 12am (midnight), we hereby direct them all to suspend the ongoing action of withdrawal of their services and resume their duty posts on Monday, 5th January, 2025.
This recall is based on the judgement of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, as the highest ruling court in the country, binding on all citizens as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Supreme Court of Nigeria judgement held in Abuja on the 5th Day of December, 2025 with suit number SC/CV/773/2025 between Attorney General of Osun State (Plaintiff) and Attorney General of the Federation (Defendant) clearly validates the democratically elected Local Government Councils Chairmen and Councilors in the Osun State elected on 22nd February, 2025 and sworn in on 23rd February, 2025.
In view of the ongoing situation, we hereby call on all security agencies to perform their civic responsibility by ensuring watertight security for all our members upon their resumption at all Local Government Council secretariats, as well as the safety of lives and properties. We urge that no worker should be bullied, molested and/or intimidated as they engage in their lawful services and advise that they should desist from supporting all form of illegalities as enforcer of the rule of law.
The Congress further cautions that this press release will be used as proof that the Congress has properly informed the security agencies of a possible threat in the event that law and order breaks down as a result of a lack of security.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Osun State Council has encouraged her members working across the State to resume and go about their duties at their workplaces without fear and anxiety, while also reassuring all our members that their security and safety is important to us.
The Congress wishes to say unequivocally that, it will not tolerate any act of victimization nor vendetta from any quarters of any labour leaders serving in the State. The principle of neutrality of the public service norm should be respected.
The Congress has always stood as a bastion of democratic principles and the voice of the masses will not cease to be in Osun State. We assure you all that the Osun State Council of the NLC remains resolute in its commitment defending the rights, welfare, and safety of all its members.
Comrade Dr. Christopher Abimbola Arapasopo mpi.
Chairman NLC
